The Siemens QRA2 + AGQ Flame Sensor & Detector is an ultraviolet (UV) flame monitoring solution used for detecting gas flames and yellow or blue oil flames in industrial burner systems. The QRA2 sensor detects UV radiation emitted by the flame, while the AGQ adapter module enables compatibility with various Siemens burner controllers.

The QRA2 flame detector is designed for intermittent burner operation, meaning the burner must shut down at least once every 24 hours. It is widely used in industrial heating equipment, boilers, and process burners where flame supervision is required for safety.

The detector works by sensing UV radiation in the wavelength range of approximately 190–270 nm, which is characteristic of combustion flames. This allows accurate flame monitoring while ignoring daylight or glowing refractory surfaces inside the combustion chamber.

When used with AGQ interface modules (such as AGQ1, AGQ2, or AGQ3), the detector can be connected to multiple Siemens burner control units including LGB, LME, LMG, LFL, and LMV series controllers.

The detector features a metallized plastic housing that prevents static charging caused by airflow from burner fans, ensuring reliable flame detection even in demanding industrial environments.

Technical Description

The Siemens QRA2 + AGQ Flame Detection System operates using a UV-sensitive photocell that detects radiation emitted by combustion flames in the 190–270 nm spectral range. When sufficient UV radiation reaches the sensor, it generates an electrical signal indicating flame presence.

The AGQ interface module acts as an adapter that converts the detector signal for compatibility with various Siemens burner control systems. This allows the QRA2 detector to be used with burner controllers such as LGB, LME21, LME22, LME39, LFL, and LMV series.

The detector is designed for direct burner mounting and can be installed with or without a flange and clamp depending on the burner design. Its metallized plastic housing prevents static discharge caused by airflow from the burner fan.

The internal UV cell typically has an average operating life of around 10,000 hours at 50 °C, after which replacement is recommended to maintain accurate flame detection.
