Product Overview
The Siemens QRI Flame Sensor & Detector series is designed for monitoring flames in industrial oil, gas, and multi-fuel burner systems. These detectors operate by sensing infrared radiation emitted by combustion flames, allowing burner control systems to confirm the presence of a stable flame during ignition and operation.
Unlike UV flame detectors, the QRI series uses infrared-sensitive technology, making it suitable for detecting flames that emit strong IR radiation such as gas, oil, and coal flames.
The detectors feature an integrated flame signal amplifier, which converts the detected infrared radiation into a stable electrical signal for the burner management system. This ensures accurate flame supervision and quick safety shutdown in case of flame failure.
Siemens QRI sensors are suitable for burners of any capacity and can operate in continuous or intermittent burner operation, making them widely used in industrial boilers, furnaces, and process heating equipment.
These detectors are commonly used with Siemens burner management systems such as LMV series controllers, providing reliable combustion safety in industrial applications.

Technical Description
The Siemens QRI flame detector operates using an infrared-sensitive detection element that responds to radiation emitted by combustion flames. The sensor detects IR radiation up to approximately 2 µm wavelength, which is typical for flames produced by gas, oil, and coal combustion.
The detected signal is processed by an integrated electronic amplifier, which converts the signal into a stable voltage output for the burner control system. This allows the burner management unit to continuously monitor the presence of a flame and initiate shutdown if the flame signal disappears.
The detector can observe flames from either frontal or lateral viewing angles, depending on the model version. Because of its high sensitivity, the sensor is typically installed behind the burner’s baffle plate to ensure accurate flame detection and avoid false signals from hot surfaces.
